A rocky beginning; Nigel steals from Mark + first day sailing.

After 3 weeks of training and traveling the #SailForJustice crew finally met 'Defy The Odds' in the Grand Canary Islands. They took her out for their first sail and faced 30 knot winds and big waves like absolute champions. They're no longer worried about just crossing the finishing line, they've got their sights set on winning this race.
On November 22, the #SailForJustice crew will be sailing on a 65’ MacGregor sailboat across the Atlantic Ocean. On the eve of our last day in Baltimore, the team shared a powerful dinner with Dr. Usal, donor of the boat, and Al, the original owner. We sat on the edge of our seats listening to the gripping sea stories and sage advice directly from the men who’ve sailed our vessel for the past 25 years. Both men drove from New Jersey to welcome our team into this quarter century old lineage, and bestow the responsibility for the safety and well being of the boat on their shoulders. The team walked away with a strong sense of camaraderie and desire to prove we’re capable of accomplishing this incredible challenge.
60 people attended our send-off dinner in Washington, D.C. on Friday night to show their support for the #sailforjustice team.
We surprised Nigel with a tearful video, played a rendition of musical chairs, and closed the night with the worlds biggest cinnamon roll.
Thank you to everyone who came out to meet and support the team !
